However, some areas that have uniqueness and outstanding beauty have succeeded in making some of film producers choose Indonesia as a perfect shooting location, either entirely shot in the country or with some scenes only. 1. King Kong 2005 (Mursala Island, North Sumatra Province)
Do you still remember the King Kong movie? It tell us about a giant King Kong who survived by fighting with his enemies. Living on a mysterious island that took the shooting location on Mursala Island, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra made him isolated from the outside world.

FYI, Moyo is also included in the list of the most expensive hotels in Indonesia. And because of its extraordinary potential, Moyo Island was chosen to be the shooting location of the 2012 Savages film, starring famous Hollywood action movie stars like Jhon Travolta and Salma Hayek.
6. Blackhat 2015 (Jakarta)
If you are the fans of The Avengers movie, of course you are already familiar with the Thor actor, right? Yep, Chris Hemsworth has also visited Jakarta for Blackhat movie in 2015. The movie which was directed by Michael Mann chosed several iconic locations in Indonesia’s capital area, such as Soekarno Hatta Airport, Sunda Kelapa Harbor, Tanah Abang and Lapangan Banteng as the location for this film.
7. The Philosopher 2013 (Jakarta, Belitung, Sumatra, Mount Bromo & Prambanan Temple)
The Philosopher film released in 2013 tells about 20 students from all over the world who were invited to see the world after being hit by a nuclear bomb. This movie starred Bonnie Wright, James D’Arcy, Freddie Stroma, Daryl Sabara, Sophie Lowe, Rhys Walefield. Indonesian artist Cinta Laura also played in this John Huddles film.
8. Dead Mine 2012 (Batam City)
The next international movie filming in Indonesia is Dead Mine, which was released in 2012. It was not only the shooting location in Indonesian territory but also a number of Indonesia’s top actors also played a role in this adventure film. In this Stephen Sheil’s movie, you will see the city of Batam as a tense place.
9. Amphibious 2010 (Sumatra Waters)
Amphibious is a 2010 creature thriller film which is directed by Brian Yuzna. The location of making this film is 100% in Indonesia. Amphibious in 2010 was the first 3D film to use the waters around Sumatra as a shooting location.
10. The Fall 2008 (Ubud Village, Bali)
The Fall is a film made by an American director of Indian descent in 2008. This film takes the natural atmosphere of Ubud as the background, Gunung Kawi Temple as well as the Kecak dance performance. Because of the story and cultural elements raised in this film made The Fall received many international awards. The film itself tells the story of a young man named Roy (Lee Pace) who wants to take revenge on a woman named Alexandria (Lee Pace).
11. Alex Cross 2010 (Nusa Lembongan Island & Karangasem Regency)
Next International film shoot in Indonesia is the Alex Cross movie released in 2010. The film is about Dr. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) who is an expert in field of investigation of premeditated murder cases in Detroit police, United States.
The film which was directed by also The Mummy and XXX film maker, chosed Karangasem and Nusa Lembongan in Bali Island as the shooting location.
12. Java Heat 2013 (Magelang, Jogja & Borobudur Temple)
The next international movies filmed in Indonesia is the Java Heat which was directed by Conor Allyn. The movie selected Magelang and Jogja for the background of the film. Among them are the Borobudur Temple, several streets and restaurants around Magelang & Jogja.
International actors involved in the shooting are Kellan Lutz and Mickey Rourke. This terrorism-themed film takes Borobudur Temple as one of its shooting locations in Indonesia.
