Series of Events of Jelajah Maumere Festival
In 2023, the Jelajah Maumere Festival was already held for 3 days. Looking back over the years, this festival was very unique in each of its events, such as:
Fun Bike Carnival Activities
In 2023, precisely on September 16, fun bike became one of the series of events of the Maumere Nature Exploration Festival.
Many residents crowded the area of the Nangrasong Rainbow Bridge, some sitting in the middle of the road or even right and left of the road.
There they enthusiastically watched the carnival participants consisting of dozens of cyclists who enlivened this annual festival.
Running Competition at this year’s FJM
This year, there will also be sports activities that enliven the festival, if last year was filled with fun bikes, this year there will be a 10-kilometer race!
This race can be followed by participants ranging from 17 years old to 35 years old. There are already 300 participants from Flores who will enliven this race on September 12, 2024.
Weaving Together
What is quite interesting about this year’s FJM is also the weaving together event which is even attended by thousands of weavers in Sikka.
They will weave together in front of the public in the context of media education to tourists who attend the festival.
Local Potential Exhibition
The festival also holds an exhibition of local potential. This exhibition aims to recall the various traditional objects produced by residents in Sikka.
For example, before there were household appliances like today, Sikka people used a variety of traditional utensils for household needs.
One that is quite iconic is the dining table made from coconut shells. Travelers can also buy these unique items as souvenirs!
Usually, cups made from coconut shells or commonly referred to as drinking water kettles are also sold at various prices depending on the quality.
Tasting Local Culinary Specialties
An adventure in Maumere wouldn’t be complete without tasting its culinary specialties. During the festival, tourists will also be invited to taste a variety of delicious and unique traditional dishes. For example, there is Jagung Bose which is a Flores specialty in the form of corn cooked with coconut milk and beans, then there is also Se’i Sapi, which is a savory and very delicious processed smoked beef from NTT!
Not only that, there is also Kolo, which is grilled rice cooked in bamboo. It’s savory, and the bamboo smells so good!
And of course, there’s Ikan Kuah Asam, which is perfect after a long day of activities. The spicy sour flavor is fresh and will make your tongue sway!
For those of you with a sweet tooth, don’t forget to try the Titi Corn. It’s a light snack of finely ground corn and usually served with liquid palm sugar. Perfect for an afternoon snack while enjoying the sunset on the beach.
