Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Makassar – Pare Pare – Puncak Lakawan – Toraja/Rantepao

Upon arrival at Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, your guide will meet you and drive by private car to Torajaland through Bugis villages and into the misty blue mountains, a long distance of 328 kms full of fascinating sights. Lunch will be served at a seafood restaurant on the hill (Bukit Kenari) in Pare Pare. After lunch, proceed to Toraja. Refreshments (coffee break) at Puncak Lakawan, overlooking beautiful landscape. Afternoon arrive in Rantepao, check hotel  for accommodation.

Day 2: Toraja - Batutumongo - Discover Toraja

This morning after you breakfast, you will go to the traditional Bolu market to see the daily activities of the locals. You will then continue to Batutumonga, then have lunch at the local restaurant enjoying the beautiful scenery. After lunch, visit Lokamata (dead balconies). Then you will be transferred by car (around 1 hour 30 – 2 hours) through the villages of Toraja. You can admire the beautiful landscape of Toraja country, with terraced rice fields, old houses, coffee and cocoa plantations, old tombs, etc. You will also have the chance to discover the daily activities of the locals.

Day 3: Batutumongo - Rantepao Trekking

Simple breakfast at the inhabitant. Afterwards you will continue your trip in Indonesia by exploring the village Buginese for about 2-3 hours. Lunch at the local restaurant. You return to the hotel around 14:00 to take a bath or rest. Back to Rantepao. In the afternoon, you visit a weavers and roasters workshop or the opportunity to walk around to discover the surroundings.

Day 4: Discover Toraja Culture

Breakfast at the hotel. Today around 9 am, departure to visit Suaya (dead balconies), then Kambira (baby’s tomb) and then visit Tampong Allo (funeral cave). Lunch at 13:00 in a panoramic restaurant. To finish your day, you will visit Karuaya, one of the most authentic villages and you will have a walk in the middle of the rice fields during 2 hours. Return to the hotel.

Day 5: Toraja - Sengkang - Lake Tempe

Breakfast before departure.Today you will be transferred to Sengkang, via Enrekang. Upon arrival in Sengkang, you will board a local motorized boat to explore Tempe Lake. You will then discover the floating houses and the way of life of those who live by the lake. Later you will visit the traditional weaving factory in Tanasitolo. Return to the hotel.

Day 6: Kajang Tribe - Bira

After breakfast, you will go to Bira en route, you will visit Kajang Village. Kajang is one of the tribes in South Sulawesi. This unique tribe prefers the isolation of the modern world. It is led by a tribal and religious leader called Ammatoa. They still live very simply with respect for ancestral customs. Currently, the Kajang Tribe lives in the village of Tana Toa, Bulukumba, South Sulawesi Province. Their philosophy of life is simple and close to nature and their territory, the village of Tana Toa is a tourist observation and exchange place whose nature is still very preserved. When you visit this tribe, you will see the natural beauty of Tana Toa and the wisdom of the people of Kajang. It is essential to walk barefoot to explore this village. Lunch at a local restaurant en route. Afternoon arrival at Bira, installation at the hotel.

Night at Bungalow Bira – Standard

Day 7: Bira - Liukang Island + Tana Beru

After breakfast, you will visit Liukang Island, located west of Tanjung Bira Beach. This beach of white sand whose clear water shines. Here you have the opportunity to do activities such as diving and snorkeling. This place is also perfect for a small beach break. Lunch at the local restaurant. Then you have the opportunity to visit Tana Beru, from where can you admire the construction techniques of Pinisi Boat with which the workers assemble the boards and carve ankles in the wood. The construction technique of the pinisi is very specific: instead of assembling the frame, the Bugis first have the keel, then the envelope. A typical pinisi is about 8 meters wide and 34 meters long. The construction will take up to a year.

Day 8: Bira - Free Day

Today you will have a free day in Bira. Bira is not an island, as we thought at first, but a very quiet seaside village. Along the white sand beach, coconut palms are kings and small restaurant shacks alongside the few hotels installed. Lunch provided at the hotel

Bira: Makassar - Final Day

This beautiful circuit in Makassar is coming to an end. After breakfast you will return to Makassar through Bulukumba Village, Jeneponto and Takalar. It will take about 5 hours on the way. In the afternoon you will arrive at Makassar. Your driver will accompany you to the airport where you will take your return flight, full memories.
